Random Thoughts: Lightning

Posted by admin on Jun 10 2008

lightning.jpgI don’t know if you guys noticed it (or if you sleep like rocks), but a thunderstorm rolled through last night, bringing some much-appreciated lower temperatures today. Anyways, as I was trying to sleep early this morning, I was awoken by this huge lightning bolt that seemed to hit about 50 yards away from my window. It was super bright and the thunder that came with it shook the window a little bit…I honestly thought that a tree was going to fall or catch on fire or something, but it never happened. Has lightning ever hit that close to you?

As I was thinking about the lightning bolt this morning, I was reminded of Job 38, where God is talking to this dude Job (funny name, I know), asking him a bunch of questions, and says, “Do you send the lightning bolts on their way? Do they report to you, ‘Here we are’?” God’s question to Job points out the difference between human beings and Himself, as He reminds us that He can do things that none of us can, including sending out lightning bolts! I mean, that’s pretty amazing isn’t it?  To be able to tell lightning bolts where to go?  Who else can do that but God?  If you want to read a really cool section of the Bible that will kind of put you in your place, check out Job 38-41, where God lists all these things that He alone can do. It’s one of my favorite passages. And next time you see a lightning bolt, think about who sent it!
